USA Women’s Hockey defeated Canada in Overtime by a final of 2 to 1 to take home Olympic Gold!

After getting dominant wins in their first 6 games of the Olympics, the championship game to win Olympic Gold versus Canada would prove to be a battle until the end. USA outscored opponents 31 to 1 capturing wins over Czechia (5-1), Finland (5-0), Switzerland (5-0), Canada (5-0), Italy (6-0) & Sweden (5-0) leading up to the Gold Medal Championship game on Thursday Feb 19th.

In the Championship game, Canada took a 1-0 lead early in the 2nd period with a shorthanded goal by Kristin O’Neil and held on to the one goal lead until just 2:04 left in the 3rd period when Hilary Knight slammed in a goal to tie the game 1-1 and set the record for most Olympic goals and points (15 goals & 33 points) for the U.S. in women’s hockey history. Following Knight’s goal, both teams had a couple more shots on net but the game would head to overtime.

It was a 3 on 3 sudden-death overtime and was suspenseful throughout featuring multiple breakaways and shots on net by both teams. Just over 4 minutes into overtime, Megan Keller flew up the left-side boards, illuded a defender and popped in the game winning goal on a backhander through the 5-hole to give the USA an EPIC overtime Gold Medal game 2 to 1 win over Canada!

U.S. goalie Aerin Frankel made 30 saves and was incredible in net to help the USA win the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics Gold Medal (their 1st Gold Medal since the 2018 Olympic games). It was an incredible team effort and a win for the United States that will go down in the history books as one of the most epic Olympic wins in history!

Gold Medal history for Olympic Women’s Hockey; USA & Canada have Won all the Olympic Gold & Silver medals since 1998 when Women’s Hockey was implemented into the Olympic games. USA now has the Gold for Women’s Hockey in 3 of the Olympic games (1998, 2018, 2026) Canada has 5 Gold medals (2002, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2022).
