We found that 76% of cell phone users pay for an unlimited data plan, although more than half of them use less than 15GB a month.
In fact, 30% of users don’t know how to check their cell phone data usage at all and may be using way less than they think they need, overpaying for their mobile plan in the process.
2024 Cell Phone Plan Overspending Report:
- The average cell phone plan through a major carrier is costing Americans $157/month
- Plans from smaller carriers like MVNOs cost less than 20% of a bill from a major brand ($30/month on average)
- Switching to an MVNO from one of the major carriers could save cell phone users an average of $1,524 a year individually, or $85,344 over the course of a lifetime
- 51% of Americans report that losing access to their cell phone service would be detrimental to their livelihood or wellbeing
