On Father’s Day Sunday (June 15th), the Red Sox completed a sweep of the NY Yankees with a 2-0 win over New York. Rafael Devers went 1 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI in the Red Sox win.
News broke of the deal at approximately 7pm on ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball just prior to first pitch of the Dodgers-Giants game, that the Giants and Red Sox have agreed on a deal sending the Red Sox slugger, Rafael Devers to the SF Giants. Rafael Devers who’s 28 years old currently has a .272 batting average (.905 OPS) on the season with 15 HR, 58 RBI’s and 47 Runs.
In return, the Red Sox receive pitchers Jordan Hicks (28), Kyle Harrison (23) and more to be named later. This season Hicks has pitched 48.2 innings and has a 1 and 5 record with a 6.47 ERA. Kyle Harrison has a 1-1 record with a 4.56 ERA and has pitched 23.2 innings.
The trade comes after a recent spat between Devers and the Red Sox, which involved Devers refusing to fulfill the request of team management to play first base.
